When should autumn yard work actually start?
When the leaves are down and the nights turn cold. Do not wait until the yard is already slippery. In Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa that moment often comes in late September.
Is it enough to rake the leaves myself?
On a small yard, yes, if the layer is thin and the paths stay open. A thick mat of wet leaves on a path is already a slip risk. Then it is not about looks. It is about someone falling.
What about gutters?
Do not leave a gutter until spring. A blocked gutter sends water onto the wall and the foundation. That is a different job from a rake. Trees, shrubs and leaves covers the planting. The gutter and the roof edge need someone who can work up high safely.
What do people get wrong every autumn?
They pile wet leaves on the lawn and assume spring will finish the job. The lawn suffocates over winter. Shrubs also get cut at the wrong time, after growth has already stopped. Ask before the shears come out.
When does it make sense to call you?
When the yard is large, the gutters are high, or nobody in the housing company owns the leaves. One visit before the frost is clearer than a frozen gutter and a slippery path.
What do you actually do?
We collect the leaves, clear the routes and look at the trees on the same visit. The waste does not sit in a pile by the gate. It leaves.
