Why do volunteer days often end in a pile of waste?
Because people bring things and nobody has agreed where they go. A pile by the gate is not a cleanup. It is the same problem, moved.
Is one skip enough?
Often yes, if you agree beforehand what may go in. A mix of a sofa, soil and paint does not leave easily. Order a skip before the volunteer day, not after it.
What should the board decide in advance?
The time, the place for the skip, and who stops it filling with the wrong things. Without that, a neighbour brings renovation waste and the bill is a surprise.
Does ice come into this too?
In December, yes. A cleanup day does not remove the duty to grit. The yard can be tidy and still slippery. Those are separate jobs.
When do you not recommend a volunteer day at all?
When the work is on a roof, in a tree, or with a machine. A volunteer day suits a basement clear-out and yard clutter. Not snow off a roof.
What happens after the skip?
We collect it. The waste does not sit in the yard until next month.
